At RLFJ we offer two distinct pathways designed to develop the whole young person — educationally, emotionally, and as a leader in their community.
Juku is our educational philosophy — where learning is hands-on, culturally rooted, and mentorship-driven. At RLFJ, every lesson is designed to meet young people where they are and build them toward where they're going.
Every young reader and writer has a story worth telling. We build reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and communication skills through engaging, hands-on experiences. Our curriculum and educational tools are designed and created in-house — built specifically to meet the unique needs of our students and fill the gaps that standard programs miss.
-Build strong reading, writing, and communication skills.
-Help students think critically
and express their ideas with confidence.
-Encourage a lifelong love of reading through engaging books and activities.
We move beyond memorization to help students understand the why behind every equation. Our in-house curriculum is designed to build conceptual understanding first — because when math makes sense, confidence follows.
-Make math easy to understand by teaching concepts before memorization.
-Build confidence through hands-on learning and real-life examples.
-Help students develop strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Curiosity is the best teacher. Through observation, exploration, and real-world experiments, young scientists discover how the world works — and how they can shape it. Our hands-on science curriculum is designed to spark wonder and build critical thinking skills.
-Explore science through observation, experiments, and discovery.
-Encourage curiosity by asking questions and finding evidence.
-Connect science to everyday life through nature and the world around us.
Young people who understand their community can change it. We explore history, citizenship, and civic responsibility — helping students see themselves as active builders of a better Lake County. Our curriculum connects classroom learning to real community impact.
-Teach students about their community, history, and civic responsibility.
- Encourage respect for different perspectives and informed decision-making.
- Help young people become confident, engaged members of their communities.
Money doesn't have to be a mystery. We teach practical budgeting, saving, entrepreneurship, and financial planning — giving young people the tools to build financial freedom on their own terms. Our in-house curriculum makes financial literacy accessible, relevant, and real.

The Rise and Build Academy is our leadership, mentorship, and entrepreneurship pathway. We equip young people with the identity, mindset, and skills to lead themselves, serve their community, and build futures right here in Lake County.
Built Different is our signature 5-module identity-first curriculum. Young people discover who they are, build unshakeable confidence, and develop the leadership skills to thrive — not just survive. Our curriculum is designed to meet young people where they are and build them into who they are meant to become
The Castle Framework uses the powerful metaphor of designing and building your own castle to help young people explore identity, character, boundaries, leadership, and community. Every room in the castle represents a different area of growth — and every young person discovers that they are both the Architect and the Master Builder of their own future.
Our three-tier youth progression pathway takes young people from community builders to civic ambassadors to next-generation leaders. At every stage they earn recognition, responsibility, and the opportunity to mentor those coming up behind them. This is how we build a legacy — one young leader at a time.
Whether you're a young person ready to level up, a parent looking for the right program, or a community partner who wants to invest in the next generation — we want to hear from you.
